Optional Recess Garden Project

Bamber Valley Elementary

This project supports a program of parental volunteer lead environmental learning and outdoor education during recess. These structured activities are optional, but occur at the same time as unstructured play in the playgrounds nearby. The funds were used for infrastructure improvements that included a vegetable garden fence, gate and watering system, new trails through Bamber Valley School's 40-acre campus, a new shed and portable greenhouse. multiple sun-shaded picnic tables, and a lockable storage bin for tools. Supplies such as bulbs, plants and seeds were also purchased. The learning area created by this project is enjoyed by or during collaborations with other educational organizations and events, such as teachers from Quarry Hill and Eagle Bluff, Eating to Win day, PTA Welcome Back and Carnival, and Boy Scouts.
